Time of My Life

Director pulls off ambitious debut

Alan Ayckbourn’s Time of my Life was an ambitious piece for Duncan Currie to launch his directing career. The Stratton family celebrating their mother’s birthday seemed a happy gathering but tension built as the play unfolded. Clever stage setting and lighting effectively showed time shifting from the present party to future and past meals eaten at the venue. Younger son Adam (Kyle Hazeldon) and girlfriend Maureen (Charlotte Smith) conveyed a growing romance between the characters. Older son Glyn (Neil Hornsey) and his wife Stephanie (Debbie Pinfold) showed their partnership unravelling. Matriarch (Caryl Clark) and Patriarch (Tony Clark) took pot shots at one another after their offspring had left the party. Restaurateur (Nic Nicolaou) relieved the tension with hilarious singing. The Guild Players achieved their director’s goal and each scene successfully drew the audience towards a full understanding of the play’s title.
